Padang, sumbarsatu.com—One of the series of activities at the International Minangkabau Literacy Festival (IMLF)#2 held by SatuPena West Sumatra was the international seminar Cultural Literacy for Peace and Prospertity with the theme "Culture Literacy Through Education". This seminar was held at the Batusangkar National Building, Tanah Datar, West Sumatra on Friday, May 10 2024. A number of speakers from abroad appeared as resource persons.
Merry Metria Eliza, Chair of the Seminar, said that this international seminar was an opportunity for participants to share knowledge and experience from speakers from several countries. "IMLF-2, which was attended by delegates from dozens of countries, was deliberately held in Tanah Datar in order to provide more opportunities for community stakeholders to become participants and at the same time introduce our region as the center of Minangkabau civilization," said Merry Metria Eliza to Sumbarsatu, Wednesday, 17 May 2024.
He explained that among the speakers who would appear were Vadim Terekhin from Russia, Francisco Munoz Soler (Spain), Bang Ai Tho (Vietnam), Bengt Berg (Sweden), Norzuraina binti Mohd Nor (Malaysia), and from Indonesia, among others, Harris Effendi Thahar (UNP Professor), Fasli Djalal (former Deputy Minister of National Education), and Sri Yulianti. Meanwhile, the moderators were Hasanuddin (Andalas University) and Shirley Idris from Malaysia.
"We invite elementary, middle, high school, vocational school, Madrasah teachers, nagari government officials and the general public to take part in this seminar. "The aim is for more and more people to gain knowledge and international insight directly from thinkers/speakers from other countries," said Merry, a driving teacher in Tanah Datar Regency.
According to Merry, apart from international seminars, various art performances and fairs will also be held at the Cindua Mato field on Friday-Sunday (10-12/5/2024).
Chairman of the IMLF-2 Committee, Sastri Bakry, added that the implementation of IMLF-2 was the second IMLF activity. In 2023, it was centered at the Bukittinggi Regional Ministry of Home Affairs PPSDM in Baso which was successful and lively.
“This year, the Tanah Datar Regency Government asked that IMLF be held in Batusangkar. "Prior to this, several meetings have been held to prepare for IMLF-2 in Tanah Datar Regency," said Sastri Bakry.
