Nagari Koto Gadang, sumbarsatu.com—Pejalan Nagari Walk 2025, a sport tourism event combining sports, tourism, and culture, will take place on Sunday, January 19, 2025, in Nagari Koto Gadang, IV Koto, Agam.

Nagari Koto Gadang, renowned for its motto "One House, One Scholar," has been the birthplace of many prominent national and international figures. The area is also famous for its silver handicrafts.

This inaugural event offers a unique experience by blending sports, exploration of natural and historical sites, cultural preservation, and environmental awareness. Pejalan Nagari Walk 2025 aims to promote culture- and environment-based tourism while showcasing the beauty of Nagari Koto Gadang and West Sumatra to local, national, and international audiences.

The event is initiated by the Sumatran Walkers Association, established in February 2024 in Koto Gadang. The association aims to introduce the beauty of West Sumatra to the world through sustainable sports and tourism.

"We believe this event will have a cross-sectoral positive impact, not only on tourism but also in other areas," said Dedi Novaldi, Chair of the Association, in an interview with sumbarsatu on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

The Beauty of Koto Gadang

Pejalan Nagari Walk features a meticulously designed 10-kilometer route. Participants will traverse lush green rice fields, refreshing streams, tropical forests, and heritage sites showcasing colonial architecture. Not to be missed is the stunning view of Ngarai Sianok, one of West Sumatra’s iconic natural wonders, which will captivate participants throughout the journey.

Jurian Andika, Event Director of Pejalan Nagari Walk 2025, remarked, "We aim to create an experience that is not only enjoyable but also meaningful for participants."

In addition to natural beauty, participants will have the opportunity to explore traditional crafts of Nagari Koto Gadang, such as embroidery and silverwork. They can even try crafting these items alongside local artisans.

Although the event is scheduled for January 19, the enthusiasm among prospective participants is already high.

"Participants who have registered come from various regions, including Riau, Jakarta, and Bandung," said Darwyta Roza, Marketing and Promotion Manager.

Pejalan Nagari Walk 2025 will start at 7:00 AM at the Larashoofd van IV Koto Traditional Hall in Nagari Koto Gadang and end at the same location. The committee has prepared three rest areas along the route and two checkpoints to ensure participants' well-being. This is a non-competitive event, with no winners or losers; the main focus is on enjoying the journey and the natural beauty.

The event aims to raise public awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation.

Dedi Novaldi expressed hope that this activity would garner more support from local governments, sports communities, and society to build a sustainable tourism ecosystem in Nagari Koto Gadang.

"Through cross-sectoral collaboration, we are confident that the tourism and cultural ecosystem in this area can flourish, bringing benefits to the community not only in terms of economic aspects but also health and education," he concluded optimistically. SSC/MN
